Q: Diabetes Cure?
Do you think that diabetes will ever be cured? And if so, how and when? A friend of mine has had diabetes all his life and I feel sorry for him, so I decided to ask this question to see what people think.

A: Yes, I think that they are getting closer all the time. The Edmonton Protocol is looking promising. It involves Islet cell transplants.
Millions of dollars are being spent on research, all over the world.
We all just gotta keep contributing to the research funds, and keep hoping.

Q: Diabetes cure?
I think I have diabetes. Last year I started a job where I am on my feet most of the day and parts of my feet went numb. at first I thought it was my shoes but it doesn’t go away even on the weekends. I think it is diabetes.
Is there any thing I can do to stop this, like a chnge of diet? I’m going to the doctor soon but I’d like to know what you people think.

A: diet and exercise are very important. but sometimes you need medication, either soclled AHA (oral) or insulin shots

Q: Where can I find arguments against an approaching Type 1 diabetes cure?
I’m researching the possibility of cure for Type 1 diabetes, and my argument is that there will be a cure in the near future, if funding improves and if beta cell and immune research continues. This is for my AP research paper, and no, I’m not making others write it. Suprisingly, I can’t find a sufficient article arguing that a diabetes cure WON’T come soon, so i’m simply asking, does anyone know where I can find one? Any tips or sites are helpful, thank you!

A: …as much as I dislike the fact that you are asking yahoo-answers for an AP Essay….I’ll help you, my approach would be through stem-cell, maybe grow a healthy pancreas and have a transplant it in, and irradiate your immune system and transplant bone marrow

Q: What can you tell me about a natural diabetes “cure”…?
mentioned by Kevin Trudeau in his updated edition of his “Natural Cures” book. He references an interview with a Dr. Yung Su Kim and a “combination of herbs researched at the University of Calgary, called by the Asian Diabetic Association” the final cure for diabetes.

I’ve googled this as best I could but come up with a variety of different things. Has anyone found this product or even used it that can tell me more?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

A: Global trotter is half right. Allow me to amplify on his/her answer.
Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) is not curable but it is REVERSIBLE.
The first step, if you are overweight, is weight loss. This in itself may be enough to reverse your BG numbers.
Tofu and other soy products are harmful and should be avoided; the only safe soy is that which has been FERMENTED: tempeh, miso and natto.
Quality protein is necessary for good health. Fish is terrific but high in mercury; choose small fish, low on the food chain, like sardines and herring, or choose a quality fish oil like Garden of Life or Carlson’s. Go for organic meats and poultry if at all possible (you may be able to find an affordable local source) since commercial meats are pumped full of undesirable hormones and antibiotics.
Choose veggies that are not starchy and not calorie-dense. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, spinach, chard, mushrooms – you get the idea. Stay away from potatoes, yams, etc.
Avoid grains, yes, even whole grains. No refined flours, white rice, pasta. I’ve found oatmeal (5-minute, not instant) to be the only grain that does not spike my blood glucose. No sweeteners, or course. In fact, it should be obvious that sugar in any form is off the menu if you are serious about reversing DMT2. The only non-calorie sweetener that is perfectly safe is stevia.

Whole eggs are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Include healthy fats as well to help you feel full: butter, lard, raw cream, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil. Avoid Omega-6 fats like margarine and vegetable oils; not only are they GMO, they upset our Omega-3 vs. Omega-6 balance that is instrumental in heart disease.

Global trotter is right about exercise too. A half-hour of walking a day would be ideal, but any activity is helpful, even 10-minute bursts of this and that. The more activity, the faster those numbers come down.

There are a whole series of supplements and herbs that are supposed to help lower BG or improve insulin receptivity. I’ve tried them all – cinnamon, bitter melon, GTF chromium, ALA, Gymnema Sylvestre etc. – none of them helped me at all. Diet and exercise are what’s working for me. Good luck and stay focused!

Q: How come you can not cure diabetes?
I know there are treatments for diabetes but I do not know the reason on why you can not cure diabetes, any type of diabetes. Please Help! Thank You.

A: It all boils down to the fact that it is just too complicated to cure.
Many people have had pancreas transplants but the transplant is difficult due to the fact that the pancreas is very delicate and not everyone is an organ donor. Right now they only do these transplants when someone is dying from diabetic complications. My uncle had a pancreas/kidney transplant and lived for 15 years until he had a heart attack.

Doctors all over the US and Canada have been working on islet cell transplantation. I know that in Philadelphia they had cured several people this past summer. The islet cell transplantation is only in the clinical trial stages right now. The medical community has recently found a better way to transplant these cells and they have had better results but it will be years before this is available to all diabetics. I was in the clinical trial in Philly and only know all of this info because I asked. I unfortunately had other health problems and had to drop out.

The medical community has been working for years on an artificial pancreas or implantable insulin pump. There have been way too many problems with these however.

There seems to be new discoveries and hope on the horizon everyday. I’ve been reading for years that a cure is just around the corner. Hopefully one day soon someone will find the thing that finally works perfectly.

Q: How does gene therapy work to cure diabetes?
Can someone please talk me through step by step the process of gene therapy! and how potentially in the future it could be used to cure diabetes. Thanks! And if you have any sources post the link to please

A: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/21c/genetics/geneticdiseasesrev2.shtml

Have a look at the website above – it helped me to understand Gene Therapy better. The website is really good in explaining the simple steps. Hope you find this useful.

:)

Q: Can you tell me the story that how to cure diabetes?
I am interested to know how cure diabetes by the treatment of homeopathy. There are lot of remedy in homeopathy to copeup with diabetes symptom. So far I am concerned specifically there no remedy for diabetes.

A: There is no cure at the time for either Type I or Type II Diabetes. Diabetes can only be controlled. It sure would be great if you could come up with something that will work! You’d be very wealthy! Good luck!

Q: I have read that there is a intestine surgery method to cure diabetes?
I read that now diabetes can be CURED by a surgery, replacing small intestine parts, which are know as producing some insulin, to stomach where they can secrete insulin..is that true?

A: the only surgery even contemplated now to cure diabetes is a pancreatic transplant – is it really worth going down that direction?

keep in mind that a) whilst you will not require insulin
b) any transplant involves subduing your immune system which means you have to be extremely careful for any type of illness / infection and also there is no guarantee that whatever caused your diabetes in the first place that it will not happen again.

i am diabetic but would not consider that an option, they are constantly coming up with new ideas though, so best wait and see a few more years down the line – something like using your own cell tissue to fix your pancreas sounds more realistic, even if it is still a long way off

Q: How do you cure diabetes?
What is the cure for diabetes?

A: There is no cure. It changes your entire lifestyle.

Q: What is the natural cure for Diabetes and Multiple sclerosis?
You always hear about natural cures for diseases, but you never hear of what they are or even the treatments. I’ve heard there is a natural cure for Herpes, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, and hypertension, but no one ever seems to know what they are, or where they can be found. I have even read that book ‘Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You to Know About’ by Kevin Trudeau and he just beats around the bush. Is there anyone out there with solid evidence and answers?

A: I am sure that if there was solid evidence backed by real proof of natural cures for diseases that _many_ healthcare professionals would be talking about them, they would be in respected journals, even the so-called ‘evil’ pharmaceutical companies would be manufacturing ‘enhanced’, ’safer’, ‘more effective’ natural cures. Just look at all the various companies that make different kinds of Vitamin C, Rosehips, Iron pills, and the like for your local grocery store.

IMHO, I think you’re best bet is to work with a professional doctor.

===============
Be cautious when referencing Kevin Trudeau’s “Natural Cures They Don’t Want You To Know About.” Do a little reading on this guy, then decide for yourself. Personally, I think he’s a huckster out to make a buck using ridiculous claims backed by pseudo-science and possibly outright untruths .. but that’s just my opinion .. and some other people like doctors, respected journalists, etc.

Q: What makes Dr. Faustman think that treating people with Diabetes with BCG will cure it?
I understand she successfully cured Diabetes in mice but this treatment has already been studied in prior research and has been given as part of standard vaccinations to people in Europe. If anyone with a good background in science can explain why her method would be more advanced, that would be most appreciated.

A: To respond to the second posting:
Dr. Faustman used the well-known immune stimulant called CFA (complete Freuds Adjuvant) initially in her mice research. As you state, one can not use CFA in humans as it is not safe. However, you did not mention that she searched for an equivalent substance known to have the same stimulatory effect that she could use in humans. She found the generic, safe and readily available substance called BCG. She has publicly stated that she also used BCG in mice with the same original effects as CFA. The human trials are currently using BCG. Faustman has shown, along with other scientists from other labs, that these immune stimulants stimulate the production of TNF alpha in the body. It is also shown that in the presence of elevated TNF alpha levels, the targeted autoreactive T cells responsible for continually killing the islet cells die off.
Dr. Faustman’s later experiments revealed that the role of islet regeneration may come from precursor cells in the spleen, or splenocytes. This belief has no part in whether her treatment will work in humans or not as she never planned to use these cells in her protocol. Dr. Faustman is attempting to eliminate the underlying autoimmune disease by first “selectively” killing off the autoreactive T cells while sparing healthy cells. Once the autoimmune cells are truly eliminated, it is believed and heavily supported by other research that regeneration of islet cells can occur even in those who have lived with diabetes for many years. Research has found that regeneration of islet cells may occur from existing islet cells in the pancreas, or from stem cells found in the pancreas, or what Faustman’s research has shown from one’s spleen. By the way, Dr. Faustman’s research showing regeneration of islet cells from splenocytes was replicated by an NIH group showing 100% replication results. In any case, Faustman and others believe that the ability of regeneration of islets can occur probably from different sources. However, it’s the elimination of the underlying autoimmune disease that may very well be the key for this to happen as a cure. The goal of Dr. Faustman’s project is to remove the disease with a safe substance so that the body can then have time to regenerate new islet cells.
It is also important to point out that since Dr. Faustman’s discovery many human clinical trials in the field of blocking the autoimmune disease and regeneration have started. Most, if not all of these are recruiting only newly diagnosed patients. Most of these trials continue to use different immune suppressant drugs, some with a history of severe side effects when used for life threatening diseases like lymphomas. Not one of these human trials is attempting the selective removal of disease.
Dr. Faustman’s phase I human clinical trial using BCG started in January of 2008 and is estimated to be completed this summer. Phase II of the human clinical trial is expected to start at the end of the year depending solely on funding.

To answer the first posting:
You are right when you say that other scientists in the past have used BCG in mice and even in human clinical trials. However, these human clinical trials only used “one vaccinated dose” of BCG while they looked for an end result of reversal of diabetes. They also did not know the mechanism of why BCG had an effect in mice but, proceeded to human clinical trials anyway.
It is known from Dr. Faustman’s studies and others that BCG, as an immune stimulant, stimuates the natural production of TNF alpha in the body. In the presence of elevated TNF alpha levels, the targeted autoreactive T-cells (responsible for killing the islet cells) die. Dr. Faustman’s studies show that it will take “a lot more than one vaccinated dose” of BCG to show any sort of end result of reversing diabetes ( ie: decreased insulin doses or off of insulin totally).
It is very important to mention that Faustman’s human clinical trial has the means of reliably measuring the killing off of these autoreactive T-cells with TNF alpha. Therefore, determining increased dosing of BCG has the best chance of being successful in phase II of her human clinical trail. Past BCG trials did not have this means.
A good analogy is the use of antibiotics to treat an infection. Imagine if science only tried one dose of an antiobiotic to test its ability to clear an infection? We all know that it takes a lot more than 1 dose to see the end result of clearing that infection.

Q: Ethical issues for gene therapy to cure diabetes?
Is there any ethical issues in gene therapy to cure diabetes. This is where they take insulin genes from a donor and inject them into a diabetic so they can produce their own insulin.

A: None that I can see as long as the donor is willing.

Q: When will scientists find a cure for diabetes?
I have a sister that has diabetes, im really hoping that scientists will find a cure very soon.

A: I’ve been a diabetic for 15 years. Trying to determine when scientists will find a cure for diabetes is akin to determining when God will return to rapture the church…it may happen tomorrow, next week, next month, next year…50 years from now!? Only God and time will tell.

The Bible says that in the end of times, doctors will find cures for many diseases. We see more and more cures everyday, so I feel that his return will be sooner than we think…when God comes back, those who’ve made the decision to follow him, won’t worry about a cure…we’ll be cured as we meet Jesus in the air! Either way, whether cured by science or God, we’ll be cured one day!

Don’t worry, Darlin’, you’ve got many, many people praying with you for God to bless us with a cure. Until then, stay steadfast in your faith and claim the cure and healings from the Lord.

God’s blessings on you and yours…Always!

Q: How can diet be effective in the prevention or cure of diabetes?
How can diet be effective in the prevention or cure of diabetes ?

A: Diet and exercise are equally important in reversing type two diabetes. (note that I did not say “cure”). It is vitally important that the type two diabetic adjust their lifestyle to include lots of healthy raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains and to exclude any and all refined, processed, enriched, packaged, preserved, man made carbohydrates (especially high fructose corn syrup) from their diet. It is equally important for the type two diabetic to get daily moderate exercise. I emphatically disagree with the good doctor. I am living proof that the disease is reversible. It is only progressive if the patient persists in living the lifestyle that brought us here in the first place. Very few doctors seem to realize this. Bear in mind that type two diabetes is a modern disease and it’s existence was practically unheard of 200 years ago, when factory processed foods were rarely found in people’s diets. Look up the Pima Indian’s plight for more on this. There are a few doctors that have done their homework and have found as I have that with healthy diet and regular exercise, a type two diabetic can live a long, healthy, and medication free life. All it requires is a lot of research and some practical application of that knowledge. I was getting worse and worse until I became desperate enough to learn for myself how to deal with the disease. The chances of gleaning this knowledge from a conventionally trained M.D. are slim. But there are a few out there that have learned. Search Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Or simply click the diabetes info link in my profile.
