Q: Can someone suggest natural cures for diabetes?
I am tired of taking medications for years for my diabetes. As I grow older I want to reduce medication and switchover to natural cures if possible.

A: Diabetes is not reversible. Please don’t discontinue any medication without discussing it with your doctor, and PLEASE don’t take advice from people who know so little about diabetes that they refer you to bastions of quackery like Mercola and Natural News.

You don’t give your age, and you don’t say whether you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or whether it’s insulin you are taking.

But in another question you talk about your love of junk food and how you don’t understand how it can be bad for you.

Type 2 diabetes can often be controlled by diet alone; mine is. And junk food has no part in a diet for controlling type 2 diabetes. At my 6 monthly check ups, my average glucose level for the previous 3 months is regularly around 5.2; I don’t know where you live or how that translates, but it’s very good control. But I know that however controlled it is, however low I keep my blood glucose levels – I’ll still always be diabetic.

There are no ‘natural cures’ for diabetes. It’s a bugger; I wish I wasn’t diabetic too, but it’s with me for life. It is for you too. I manage to keep on the straight and narrow by asking myself which I want more, chocolate or my feet? Junk food or my eyesight? No contest. If I had to take medication for diabetes my attitude would be the same.

Please don’t run the risk of uncontrolled diabetes and the dire consequences that can have by abandoning your meds and going for any of the dubious (at best) ‘cures’ that may be recommended here.

Q: Has anybody had any positive experiences with diabetes cures or treatments?
My dad has type 2 I think. (It’s the one where you don’t use insulin). The problem is he lives in Africa where the drugs can not be trusted. This is obviously very worrying as I am in the U.K and cannot oversee anything.

Anyway, if anyone can help I would really appreciate it as you can imagine it is driving me to dis-pare. Another option is bringing him here for treatment. Can anyone advise on this or have any ideas for me?

A: I have type 1 myself but,for type 2 as with type 1 his diet is very important. Avoiding starchy things like pasta, bread and potatoes. eating lean meats fruits and vegetables in proper quantities would hopefully do the trick. I have heard talk about cinnamon being helpful to type 2s but I don’t know if that has proven to be effective or not. Best of Luck to you and your dad.

Q: Are there underground cures for diabetes?
I am not looking to bring out the truth or share what I discover.

I am just seeking if I can cure diabetes so I won’t have to suffer through any more treatments. I feel like I wanna die.

If it is being underground I wanna know for Me plz I am sick of No hope.

Are there any cures for type1 diabetes????

A: Um, no, if there was a cure to diabetes, it certainly wouldn’t be underground, it would make whoever discovered it unbelieveably rich.

Q: does canary seed milk helps loose weight and cures diabetes?
i read inthe univision forums that canary seeds are good for diabetes and loose weight, but properly handled.is that true? maybe a doctor can anwer too

A: If canary seed cured diabetes, why do 350,000 people have diabetes in North America?

Q: How can we stop people from promoting scam cures for diabetes?
There is one guy on here that I have flagged dozens of times, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.
Anita, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I know that you know what I’m referring to. I won’t say it here, because thay might draw more attention to it.

Emailing the FDA is good, too.

A: Good question. I know it takes yahoo about a million years to investigate these violators too. Perhaps those of us that are regulars to this category could band together and all thumbs down these scam artists. Then perhaps when people are coming here to seek honest knowledge, they may think twice about believing something with so many thumbs down. I’ll do my part.

Q: What companies are doing research on cures for diabetes?

A: Lots of them.

Start by eating well – very little fast food. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

I know Amylin Pharmaceuticals is doing research.

Q: What can you tell me about a natural diabetes “cure”…?
mentioned by Kevin Trudeau in his updated edition of his “Natural Cures” book. He references an interview with a Dr. Yung Su Kim and a “combination of herbs researched at the University of Calgary, called by the Asian Diabetic Association” the final cure for diabetes.

I’ve googled this as best I could but come up with a variety of different things. Has anyone found this product or even used it that can tell me more?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

A: Global trotter is half right. Allow me to amplify on his/her answer.
Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) is not curable but it is REVERSIBLE.
The first step, if you are overweight, is weight loss. This in itself may be enough to reverse your BG numbers.
Tofu and other soy products are harmful and should be avoided; the only safe soy is that which has been FERMENTED: tempeh, miso and natto.
Quality protein is necessary for good health. Fish is terrific but high in mercury; choose small fish, low on the food chain, like sardines and herring, or choose a quality fish oil like Garden of Life or Carlson’s. Go for organic meats and poultry if at all possible (you may be able to find an affordable local source) since commercial meats are pumped full of undesirable hormones and antibiotics.
Choose veggies that are not starchy and not calorie-dense. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, spinach, chard, mushrooms – you get the idea. Stay away from potatoes, yams, etc.
Avoid grains, yes, even whole grains. No refined flours, white rice, pasta. I’ve found oatmeal (5-minute, not instant) to be the only grain that does not spike my blood glucose. No sweeteners, or course. In fact, it should be obvious that sugar in any form is off the menu if you are serious about reversing DMT2. The only non-calorie sweetener that is perfectly safe is stevia.

Whole eggs are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Include healthy fats as well to help you feel full: butter, lard, raw cream, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil. Avoid Omega-6 fats like margarine and vegetable oils; not only are they GMO, they upset our Omega-3 vs. Omega-6 balance that is instrumental in heart disease.

Global trotter is right about exercise too. A half-hour of walking a day would be ideal, but any activity is helpful, even 10-minute bursts of this and that. The more activity, the faster those numbers come down.

There are a whole series of supplements and herbs that are supposed to help lower BG or improve insulin receptivity. I’ve tried them all – cinnamon, bitter melon, GTF chromium, ALA, Gymnema Sylvestre etc. – none of them helped me at all. Diet and exercise are what’s working for me. Good luck and stay focused!

Q: any natural diabetes cures or ways to help fight off type 2 diabetes???
are there any natural ways to help fight off diabetes using natural herbs and foods, if so please list them, i am paying out $250+ a month on medications that do not seem to be helping, and have been doing so for the last 3 years, i follow a strict diet with little to no sugars and carbs, but all i manage to do is go deeper in debt and get sicker.

A: You should check-out, Kevin Trudeau’s Natural Cures book. I haven’t read this book myself but I have heard many good things about it. I believe he addresses diabetes in length and things you can do to bring it under control.

I wish you the best of luck and good health. I really feel you on this issue because my dad passed away from diabetes.

Q: Do you know that the bark of an Indian tree cures diabetes?

A: I didn’t think there was a cure for diabetes. What is the reference for that?

Q: What do you think? Are diabetes and cancer curable but cures are hidden so doctors can make more money?
Treating an illness stimulates the economy. Curing it does not.

A: I am so sick and tired of hearing all of these goddamned conspiracy theories about the medical industry TRYING to keep people sick so they can milk them for all they are worth.

THAT IS NONSENSE.

No matter how many diseases we “Cure” there will be 100 more developing or mutating that will need to be fought…

A friend of my father just won’t shut up about how it is this massive conspiracy to put corn syrup in EVERYTHING so that it makes everyone sick and the BIG BAD EVIL PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY can sell us drugs to fix us just enough to keep selling us drugs… Drugs that will keep you sick so they can KEEP SELLING DRUGS!

This is retarded…

She also believes that AIDS was created by the government or whatever to kill off blacks and gays…

Vaccinations DO NOT cause Autism… WE HAVE EVIDENCE OF THIS!

The KKK is not bottling a brand of Orange Soda with a chemical that decreases fertility of blacks…

All of this nonsense is taking away money, time, and focus form the people that are truly trying to fight these diseases.

Hell… Just look up the BBC Doc about Thalidomide and how it takes Blood Cancer from an automatic death sentence and turns it in to a manageable condition.

The same people screaming about ‘conspiracies’ are the one screaming about stopping stem cell research and cutting the funds to research…

Q: I am looking for natural cures for diabetes and depression. What is a good source?

A: go ask people personally that already have it

Q: Are there any known alternative cures for Diabetes?
Looking for an alternative or otherwise cure or aid in dramatically reducing the blood sugar level of diabetics.

A: Not a one. There is a widespread back of the mind conviction among many that there exists an entire alternative medical structure (ancient knowledge, traditional approaches, …) which offers cures or treatment ordinary medicine does not. That’s a false belief, by and large. Any natural cures which worked as well as ordinary medicine would be quite prominent indeed and wouldn’t remain alternative for very long.

consider, in the case of diabetes alone, that a plant long known to help with diabetes (goat’s rue) is the source of Glucophage (metformin) and the biguanides generally. Gila monsters (the poisonous lizard from the N American SW desert) is the source of a new diabetes drug nearing approval and release for clinical use. An herb, used in cosmetics because it makes the pupil larger in small doses, is the source of digitalis, still one of the primary drugs in cardiovascular medicine.

The common sorts of diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2) is a condition without a cure. And it’s a real pain literally and figuratively. There is a lot of quackery and snake oil om consequence. so far, diabetes related research has earned 4 Nobel Prizes, and any advance as effective as some of the advertising claims about ‘traditional’ cures or treatments would be high on the eligible list for another.

We now understand diabetes about as well as we understand broken legs. There’s little treatment for a broken leg aside from setting it, splinting it, treating it carefully, and waiting. And for good reason. Likewise there’s good understanding of what’s going on in diabetes (type 1 and type 2) and what would be needed to fix them (mostly). We can’t do that yet, just as we can’t get a broken leg to mend in a couple of days. And that’s the state of the art in diabetes treatment, alternative included.

Someday, there’ll be a cure… Would save a bundle of money and a lot of nuisance. Support diabetes research and encourage those with research money to assign some to diabetes.

Q: Where can I find arguments against an approaching Type 1 diabetes cure?
I’m researching the possibility of cure for Type 1 diabetes, and my argument is that there will be a cure in the near future, if funding improves and if beta cell and immune research continues. This is for my AP research paper, and no, I’m not making others write it. Suprisingly, I can’t find a sufficient article arguing that a diabetes cure WON’T come soon, so i’m simply asking, does anyone know where I can find one? Any tips or sites are helpful, thank you!

A: …as much as I dislike the fact that you are asking yahoo-answers for an AP Essay….I’ll help you, my approach would be through stem-cell, maybe grow a healthy pancreas and have a transplant it in, and irradiate your immune system and transplant bone marrow

Q: Are there any alternative treatments/cures for Diabetes?
In 1995 I suffered from acute pancreatitis. Surgeons removed 90% of my pancreas and this left me Type 2 diabetic. I was doing fine on pills until this past december my Endocrinologist decided to put me on Humulin R(about 15 units before meals) and and later on added Lantus(about 55 units 2x day) Insulins. In addition I’ve eaten healthier but I’ve gained about 20lbs. I really hate this and I want to get off insulin but doctors tell me that i had been using the pills (glyburide/metformin < and other variants of all these before that> and Actos) for too long and its not healthy for my liver. I’d prefer to not be on insulin dependency. I know there are stem cell studies and other research going on. But is there anything else I should be looking into ? Is insulin safe? The ingredients are horrific!
Has anyone had success with other methods???
I live in Arizona I’m a 44 year old male.
Thanks for your help.

A: For type I and type II diabetics…

I’ve found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I’m a type II, but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It’s by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it’s the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don’t have a recent relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be ‘effectively’ cured.

The book explains what’s going on in our system and what to do about it. It’s really easy and inexpensive. It’s basically diet, supplements and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorbtion? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA: http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/np/fnrb/fnrb0104.htm#pinch

For men: Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction? I was. Yes, WAS. Now that everything’s under control, I’m able to have nearly normal sex again.

Q: What is the natural cure for Diabetes and Multiple sclerosis?
You always hear about natural cures for diseases, but you never hear of what they are or even the treatments. I’ve heard there is a natural cure for Herpes, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, and hypertension, but no one ever seems to know what they are, or where they can be found. I have even read that book ‘Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You to Know About’ by Kevin Trudeau and he just beats around the bush. Is there anyone out there with solid evidence and answers?

A: I am sure that if there was solid evidence backed by real proof of natural cures for diseases that _many_ healthcare professionals would be talking about them, they would be in respected journals, even the so-called ‘evil’ pharmaceutical companies would be manufacturing ‘enhanced’, ’safer’, ‘more effective’ natural cures. Just look at all the various companies that make different kinds of Vitamin C, Rosehips, Iron pills, and the like for your local grocery store.

IMHO, I think you’re best bet is to work with a professional doctor.

===============
Be cautious when referencing Kevin Trudeau’s “Natural Cures They Don’t Want You To Know About.” Do a little reading on this guy, then decide for yourself. Personally, I think he’s a huckster out to make a buck using ridiculous claims backed by pseudo-science and possibly outright untruths .. but that’s just my opinion .. and some other people like doctors, respected journalists, etc.
