Q: Where can I find arguments against an approaching Type 1 diabetes cure?
I’m researching the possibility of cure for Type 1 diabetes, and my argument is that there will be a cure in the near future, if funding improves and if beta cell and immune research continues. This is for my AP research paper, and no, I’m not making others write it. Suprisingly, I can’t find a sufficient article arguing that a diabetes cure WON’T come soon, so i’m simply asking, does anyone know where I can find one? Any tips or sites are helpful, thank you!

A: …as much as I dislike the fact that you are asking yahoo-answers for an AP Essay….I’ll help you, my approach would be through stem-cell, maybe grow a healthy pancreas and have a transplant it in, and irradiate your immune system and transplant bone marrow

Q: What can you tell me about a natural diabetes “cure”…?
mentioned by Kevin Trudeau in his updated edition of his “Natural Cures” book. He references an interview with a Dr. Yung Su Kim and a “combination of herbs researched at the University of Calgary, called by the Asian Diabetic Association” the final cure for diabetes.

I’ve googled this as best I could but come up with a variety of different things. Has anyone found this product or even used it that can tell me more?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

A: Global trotter is half right. Allow me to amplify on his/her answer.
Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) is not curable but it is REVERSIBLE.
The first step, if you are overweight, is weight loss. This in itself may be enough to reverse your BG numbers.
Tofu and other soy products are harmful and should be avoided; the only safe soy is that which has been FERMENTED: tempeh, miso and natto.
Quality protein is necessary for good health. Fish is terrific but high in mercury; choose small fish, low on the food chain, like sardines and herring, or choose a quality fish oil like Garden of Life or Carlson’s. Go for organic meats and poultry if at all possible (you may be able to find an affordable local source) since commercial meats are pumped full of undesirable hormones and antibiotics.
Choose veggies that are not starchy and not calorie-dense. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, spinach, chard, mushrooms – you get the idea. Stay away from potatoes, yams, etc.
Avoid grains, yes, even whole grains. No refined flours, white rice, pasta. I’ve found oatmeal (5-minute, not instant) to be the only grain that does not spike my blood glucose. No sweeteners, or course. In fact, it should be obvious that sugar in any form is off the menu if you are serious about reversing DMT2. The only non-calorie sweetener that is perfectly safe is stevia.

Whole eggs are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Include healthy fats as well to help you feel full: butter, lard, raw cream, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil. Avoid Omega-6 fats like margarine and vegetable oils; not only are they GMO, they upset our Omega-3 vs. Omega-6 balance that is instrumental in heart disease.

Global trotter is right about exercise too. A half-hour of walking a day would be ideal, but any activity is helpful, even 10-minute bursts of this and that. The more activity, the faster those numbers come down.

There are a whole series of supplements and herbs that are supposed to help lower BG or improve insulin receptivity. I’ve tried them all – cinnamon, bitter melon, GTF chromium, ALA, Gymnema Sylvestre etc. – none of them helped me at all. Diet and exercise are what’s working for me. Good luck and stay focused!

Q: Do you beleive in Pranayama(Yoga) for the diabetes cure?
I read in web site about the same and I practice regulary, it seems it is effective.

A: I do. Pranayama is helpful in many or all conditions.Pranayama is different from yoga as it is known in the west.

Q: diabetes cure at the Asian diabetic association?
where do I find information on it on it and the herbs that are supposed to be used? and don’t say it doesn’t exist because that is just being shortsighted. do I need to join the Kevin tredaeu website or email someone or what?
I say dont say there isn’t one. and then tink says just that. Tredaeu is a brilliant guy for bringing us this info and I believe him. worst comes the worst I’ll get a subscription to his site.

A: That swine Trudeau will tell you about gymnema sylvestre – which does balance out sugar, but in 98% of people who have been formally diagnosed with diabetes, it just wont cut the mustard

If you want to look up that herb, please do. I suggest everyone educate themselves to options – but whatever it is you do read, read with a healthy dose of skepticism, please. There are plenty of people on the internet who would sell you thier own mother for only $9.95

Google pubmed – then plug gymnema into the search engine (I would do it here, but its an internal serach engine, and any link I put here wont actually take you there) – - that will give you the results of peer reviewed studies on the matter – - and there are some…so its worth looking.

Dietary changes and excercise – thats your best bet – and I’m sure your doctor has suggested it. Please take it into consideration.

Good Luck

Q: How come you can not cure diabetes?
I know there are treatments for diabetes but I do not know the reason on why you can not cure diabetes, any type of diabetes. Please Help! Thank You.

A: It all boils down to the fact that it is just too complicated to cure.
Many people have had pancreas transplants but the transplant is difficult due to the fact that the pancreas is very delicate and not everyone is an organ donor. Right now they only do these transplants when someone is dying from diabetic complications. My uncle had a pancreas/kidney transplant and lived for 15 years until he had a heart attack.

Doctors all over the US and Canada have been working on islet cell transplantation. I know that in Philadelphia they had cured several people this past summer. The islet cell transplantation is only in the clinical trial stages right now. The medical community has recently found a better way to transplant these cells and they have had better results but it will be years before this is available to all diabetics. I was in the clinical trial in Philly and only know all of this info because I asked. I unfortunately had other health problems and had to drop out.

The medical community has been working for years on an artificial pancreas or implantable insulin pump. There have been way too many problems with these however.

There seems to be new discoveries and hope on the horizon everyday. I’ve been reading for years that a cure is just around the corner. Hopefully one day soon someone will find the thing that finally works perfectly.

Q: Has anyone heard of or used the diabetes “cure” called MELABIC?
I’ve seen the ads, I have scoured the website, and I am on Julia Hanf’s e-mail list. I would like to hear about some results to see if there is any merit to her claims. Thanks!

A: Try it if you want to waste your money, but there is nothing magical here that helps regulate blood glucose. Even cinnamon has recently been proven not to help. Alpha Lipoic Acid can be helpful with neuropathy, but only in much larger amounts. And of course, only Type 2’s should try this stuff but don’t stop your regular meds. Type 1’s always need insulin, no other options.

Here are the ingredients:

15 mg Zinc (as Zinc Oxide)
0.25 mg Chromium (as Chromium Amino Acid Chelate)
400 mg Gymnema Sylvestre Pwd
300 mg Cinnamon Powder (cinnamomum Verum)(bark)
160 mg Banaba (1% Corosolic Acid)
300 mg Bitter Mellon Powder 4:1 Extract (momordica Charantia)
0.2 mg Biotin
300 mg Alpha Lipoic Acid
500 mg Fenugreek

Q: How to cure diabetes in a young mother?
A young mother of 24 yrs is having diabetes and she has to take insulin daily. What is the best ayurvedic, dietary or natural remedy for her? As she has to care for her baby all through the day, she is unable to do any exercise.

A: Diabetes canNOT be cured. it can only be CONTROLLED.

Since she is taking insulin, we are not clear if she is a Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetic. Treatment will be based on what type of diabetic she is.

Type 1 Diabetes is characterized by a complete failure of the pancreas. This most often happens in children uner the age of 18, but it is not uncommon for young adults as old as 30 to get it. Type 2 Diabetes can also turn into Type1, after many years of poor treatment.

Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight. This is most common in adults over 40, but with society’s ways of eating wrong foods and failing to get exercise, Type 2 Diabetes is now showing up in children as young as 9 years old!

And Type 2 Diabetes is VERY common if the mother had Gestational Diabetes while pregnant. In fact, a woman who has Gestational Diabetes is more than twice as likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes later in life.

There is only ONE treatment for Type 1 Diabetes — insulin shots. Since the body produces NO insulin, the shots are necessary, or she will die. The ONLY alternative is a risky, painful, and expensive pancreas transplant.

Type 2 diabetes can often be controlled through diet and exercise.

The Type 2 Diabetes MUST COMPLETELY ELIMINATE sugar from their diet. They can have NO sugar. That means no colas, sports drinks, energy drinks, canned fruit juices, candies, cakes, ice cream, pudding, doughnuts, cookies — ANYTHING with sugar MUST be ELIMINATED from the diet.

The patient MUST reduce the amounts of starches they eat. Eat fewer breads, crackers, pastas, rice, corn, and potatoes. It really help to get a Diabetic Cookbook, and learn what foods are starchy and what food are healthy.

And the patient MUST get more exercise. “She has to care for her baby” is just an excuse. if she does not get more exercise she is going to be hospitalized, limtied to a wheelchair or nursing home, or die — any of the three will leave her baby with NO care, and dying will leave the baby without a mother.

You could do her a great service by getting off the internet and volunteering to take care of the baby while she exercises!

THERE IS NO CURE FOR DIABETES. IF she can develop the self-discipline to change her eating habits and lifestyle, then the diabetes can be CONTROLLED, and she will live as long and as happy as a healthy perseon.

But for the rest of her life, the diabetes will still be inside her, just waiting for her to change her diet or forget to exercise. then, the diabetes will come back, and usually stronger and more viscious than before. the results can be heart attacks, strokes, blindness, amputation, kidney failure and dialysis — even death!

Q: Can you tell me the story that how to cure diabetes?
I am interested to know how cure diabetes by the treatment of homeopathy. There are lot of remedy in homeopathy to copeup with diabetes symptom. So far I am concerned specifically there no remedy for diabetes.

A: There is no cure at the time for either Type I or Type II Diabetes. Diabetes can only be controlled. It sure would be great if you could come up with something that will work! You’d be very wealthy! Good luck!

Q: How true that Omega 3 substance from tuna can cure diabetes?
Diabetes is the one of the killer disease today.

A: It’s not true. There is no cure for Diabetes. However, with Type 2 Diabetes ( Adult Onset or Lifestyle Diabetes) if a person loses weight, eats healthy, exercise and, monitoring of blood sugar levels, then they may no longer require oral hypoglycemics ( to lower blood sugar) and/or insulin. Omega 3 fatty acids are helpful with some conditions because it helps the body to build healthy new cells. There are studies that suggest that fish oil is good for heart health, reduction of bad cholesterol and, there is some evidence that it may reduce blood sugar levels but, it does not cure Diabetes. I hope that this helped some. Here’s a web:

Q: How can i raise money to donate to cure diabetes?
i’m 15 years old and really would like to raise money to help the cause of diabetes. Should i have a bake sale, sell things i just don’t know what to do for it and if so where can i sell things to raise money for it thanks for all your help

A: Your best bet would be to get a JOB. Yes a JOB. And then give all money to research. Give it to Nasa. They promised a cure for diabetes 30 years ago. Billions of dollars later, NOTHING.

Wishful Thinking. Or magical thinking. Which means , Having a thought and then it just happens! Better yet just buy ice cream cones for diabetics. They will be happy and you will feel fulfilled!

Q: Has anyone heard about a cure for diabetes used with…?
I hear this one scientist found that lettuce could possibly cure diabetes, this guys name is Henry Daniell… has anyone heard about it, I just found out that it was on the news 2 years ago and i never knew a thing about it, until i tried to research about the cure myself… I mean, has anyone heard about any follow ups on that research? and if you want to see it on the news go to youtube and type in “Diabetes cured with lettuce”

A: The key to curing a disease that affects 21 million people in the U.S. could be found on your dinner table nearly every night.

One University of Central Florida professor may have finally unlocked the code to wipe diabetes completely off the map.

Dr. Henry Daniell and his team of 20 bio-medical researchers have worked for five years, experimenting with genetically modified lettuce and its affect on diabetes patients.

They have come up with what they believe is a cure for diabetes.

“This would be not only a cure, but also an inexpensive cure,” Daniell said.

A person with diabetes is sentenced to a lifetime of needles and careful monitoring of their blood sugar levels.

“I believe that it’s going to be a very significant advancement and so far there has been no permanent cure for diabetes,” said Daniell. “This is the first time the root cause of the problem, the immune disorder, is tackled.”

Genetically modified lettuce is grown in a lab at UCF.

A leaf is placed in a machine and injected with the human gene for insulin.

“We can really be happy that we have made progress that helps a society, especially large numbers of people,” said Daniell.

For people living with diabetes, the find is a major breakthrough.

Daniell said he has been stunned by the response from his find.

He’s received thousands of e-mails and phone calls, mostly from Florida residents.

Daniell first tested his insulin-producing lettuce on mice, and the results were shocking.

“By the end of the study, the diabetic mice had normal blood and urine sugar levels,” Daniell said. “And their cells were producing normal levels of insulin.”

These results occurred after just eight weeks of treatment.

Daniell said if human trials, which are now under way, are successful, it would impact millions of diabetics worldwide and provide a permanent and affordable cure for the disease.

His team has found a way to grind the lettuce down to a fine green powder that can be distributed in the form of a capsule, which helps regulate the dosage.

Daniell is currently conducting clinical trials with a major pharmaceutical company.

If all goes well, this cure for diabetes could be made available to millions of people with diabetes in four years.

Now if you believe this , I have a bridge over here in THAILAND that I would like to sell to you.
Pipe dreams are easily sold to the unwary.

Q: Do I need to bring food and drinks for my team to a walk to cure diabetes?
We put together a family team for a JDRF walk and have about 50 people walking with us. I wasn’t sure if we are supposed to supply the food and drinks for our walkers or if JDRF provides all that. We’ll be walking this Saturday, November 14 so I’ll need an answer pretty soon. Thanks!

A: That is a wonderful achievement! I am excited for you! I wish I had the experience of knowing for sure if they supply the food and drink or if you need to provide it yourself – however, I use this rule of thumb, if you are diabetic, you never leave anything for chance, bring a little cooler of things that will help you get through the day…

You could contact the people who organized this event to find out for sure if there will be refreshment provided – I bet that is part of the plan, as I went on a walkathon, and the sponsors provided sandwiches and cool drinks-

Thanks for doing what you are doing -

A: We received an unsolicited e-mail on October 19, 2002, from “Doctor Ho Wing” that read as follows:
Drug companies and some doctors keep telling diabetes “NO CURE” “UNCURABLE” do you know why ?

[Curiosity led me to search the Internet for anything reflecting Dr. Wing's capabilities. The following website seems to be the only discussion. At EL Rincón de la Polémica, which is in Spanish, there's a page entitled El Dr. Ho Wing y la cura de la diabetes (Dr. Ho Wing and the cure of diabetes). It seems that others have questioned his methods, and he has not responded adequately. A rough translation of the conclusion of the article is as follows.]
Of all the repercussions, one letter stands out: it was sent to Ho Wing by Dr Alberto Alvarez Melero, diabetólogist, Director of Metabolism of Clinical Santa Clarita of the English Hospital of the Northwest (Tijuana, Mexico):

“To dare to say that there is a diabetes cure, when we have nothing to judge it scientifically… is not an easy task. Therefore I respectfully request to Dr Ho Wing to please send his scientific studies on the matter to me. I promise him to be impartial and to put in the scientific balance his experimental results and methods.

If there is the ability to reproduce these resultes in a laboratory approved by the world-wide scientific community and to be certain of the observations, I will be first in writing to the Karolinska Institute so that it is evaluated for him to receive the Nobel prize”.

We received an unsolicited e-mail on November 24, 2002, that read as follows:
Hello Friends,
I’m sending this letter to my entire email list because I’m so excited about an article that was sent to me about a new product that has just been developed for Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and High Cholesterol. It’s working MIRACLES!!! … The Manufacturers of Glucotor Are So Sure of This Product They Are Offering a 90 Day 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. …

But someone wrote to the website, and got the following answer:
Question:
Dear Healing America: I have a friend and her son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 3 years old. Now he is 12 I think and on daily insulin shots. I listen to the training call last night and I know that the Glucotor helps people with type 2 diabetes but could it help someone with type 1 also? At least to control his blood sugar so that he didn’t have to be on insulin or at least cut back on his shots. Or can this in any way help someone with type 1 diabetes if so in what way and what would the dosage be? This is really someone I would love to help out so thank you for your time. Tina

Answer:
So far we haven’t attempted to try it on a Type1. The reason being the medical doctors on board say that it won’t work for a type 1. The guarntee wouldn’t apply to a Type 1. They need to go into it knowing it probably won’t work BUT who knows.

[Hmm. Interesting guarantee. If you have type 1 diabetes, they will encourage you to buy the stuff, "knowing it probably won't work", but they won't give you your money back if it doesn't work!]
